Laguna Humantay is on the way to the sacred Salkantay mountain, and its brilliant turquoise waters are the product of glacier melt from the mountain that bears the

same name. The snow-capped mountains in the backdrop combined with sparkling Laguna Humantay make this place a beautiful, magical and spiritual place. Humantay is located at 4180 m.a.s.l. (13,779 feet) in the district of Mollepata – Soraypampa. On your way you will enjoy dramatic landscapes offered by the Apurímac River valley, in addition to lush flora and fauna. Itinerary

Itinerary

Day 1: Cusco – Cusipata – Montaña de Colores – Cusco

Early pick up at your hotel between 4:30 & 5:00AM. We travel north-west of Cusco, to Mollepata village (3 hours of travel), and on the way we’ll see the rich vegetation of the Apurímac river valley. In quaint and picturesque Mollepata, we will enjoy a delicious breakfast to fill ourselves with energy and then we’ll continue heading northeast to the starting point of the trek in Soraypampa, which is at an altitude of 3,900 masl (12,795 feet).

The landscape, flora, fauna and the views of the imposing and majestic Salkantay snow-capped mountain (6,271 meters above sea level (20,574 ft), make this place a beautiful, magical and spiritual landscape. Salkantay is considered sacred and offerings are made of coca leaves and other items by the local inhabitants. After a short rest in Soraypampa, we will begin our walk towards Humantay Lagoon heading north, located at an altitude of 4,180 masl (3,779 feet).

We will hike at a comfortable pace, enjoying the landscape and also not overexerting ourselves due to the elevation. After ascending approximately an hour and a half, we will get our first glimpse of Humantay lagoon.

Here we will have free time to enjoy the beautiful scenery at your leisure, before returning by descending by the same route. Once back in Mollepata, we’ll enjoy lunch before heading back to Cusco. We recommend planning this trip after acclimatizing for two nights in Cusco.
